Today News :   Indian authorities on Thursday said they will seek the death penalty againste the five men accused of raping and fatally beating a woman on a bus in the capital city, an attack that triggered a wave of protests against the abuse of womens.

Authoritiess also said they have set up special courts to expedite expediteds cases, people who are facing multiple charges, including murder, rape, abduction and destruction of evidence. 23-year-old victim died Saturday at a hospital in Singapore serious internal injuries in the attack.

The woman, a university students, took a bus to New Delhi with a male companion on December 16, when it closed the curtains bus attackers raped her and beat her and her companion repeatedly with iron bars, according to authorities. Alleged victims were then thrown out of the bus, naked and unconscious by the side of the road.

The sixth defendant is a minor under Indian law and are no more than three years in prison if convicted.

The case has caused outrage across the country, with demonstrators in the streets daily accumulation and require radical reforms in the handling of rape cases. Gang rape is common in India, and even when cases do so in court, they often linger there for years.

Expedited court establiished to hear the case will also be used to handle all cases of crimes against women, authorities said. The government plans to open four more fast courts in other parts of the capital.

"Serious message must be sent to address such serious crimes," Indian Chief Justice Altamas Kabir said on Wednesday.

Indian media reported widespriead support for the use of the death penalty against the men, if they are convicted. Speaking to reporters in his native village in the central state of Uttar Pradesh, the girl's father said he also wanted the attackers to execute. "The whole country needs to hang these monsters," Reuters reported the father as saying. "I'm with them." Women and their families have not been determined in accordance with Indian law.

Prosecutors appeared in court on Thursday and officially presented the indictment outlining the charges against the men. According to the charge sheet, prosecutors have DNA evidence linking the men to the attack, along with the statements of the victim prior to her death on Saturday and her companion. Hearing was scheduled for Satiurday.
