A man came to the sea in California, trying to save a dog.

The Coast Guard says the man and his wife were walking on the beach near Point Reyes on the first day of the New Year, when a wave caught up with the dog. Point Reyes is a popular tourist destination about 30 miles north-west of San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported couple went into the water to save a dog, but the man was swept away.
Two Coast Guard boats and two helicopters is the human body in the water after nearly three hours of searching, CBS San Francisco reports.
Wife and dog made it safely to shore.

According to CBS San Francisco, witnesses from a nearby location called North Beach described the giant waves of 20 feet or more from the tide in this narrow beach. One witness told the Marin County Sheriff that he assisted in the rescue work.

The woman was completely sucked in and could not get up from the back. He and another man held the woman, CBS San Francisco reports. Then the woman's husband came in and tried to get the dog, but he was hit by a wave from behind and the witness said that he was held in the sea immediately.
